Are you teaching Mythology this year, as part of your curriculum? This half hour animation is just the thing for you. This new animation (on videotape) explains the history, culture, and belief of three amazing mythological creatures: the mermaid, dragon, and unicorn. Children will discover interesting facts, such as how the mermaid's earliest recording was found in Babylon, and was known as a deity called EA (or Oannes in Greek). Children will discover mermaids in Greece and learn their names.

Unicorns are creatures that were believed to exist in China and Europe, and were written about by Hildegard of Bingen during the 12th century . Here the origin of fables and myths surrounding the unicorn are explored.

The dragon is another creature found in Asia and Europe, and is seen in wildly different ways. In Europe the dragon is viewed as a monster with evil powers, while the Asian dragon is viewed as prosperous and incredibly lucky.

This animation will expose children to new words, such as the names given to mermaids, and dragons, as well as Greek names of mermaid deities (and their origins). These include Poseidon, Triton, Glaucus and Scylla. This animation subcribes to the Standards of English-Language Arts for Public Schools set by the State Board of Education, and follows the guidelines for 6th and 7th grades.
